Regulatory Activities

By monitoring the global regulatory environment, Global Dairy Platform will help members gain greater insight into regulatory activities worldwide. With this information, GDP will provide members with a more focused and aligned approach to regulatory issues. The members-only database will contain examples of regulations related to health claims to identify opportunities and issues for the dairy industry.

For example, one of GDP’s initial projects in this area concerns trans fatty acids (TFA) and conjugated linoleic acids (CLA). The Dutch Dairy Association and the European Dairy Association recently hosted a group of scientists from academia and industry to discuss future research, communication and lobbying activities related to TFA and CLA. Their work will be presented to the GDP Scientific and Communication Advisory Board members for their input and potential next steps.

Through effective monitoring of the regulatory environment, GDP will enable members to identify health claims that can be made for dairy products, and advocate and coordinate regulatory approval for these claims. GDP also will monitor regulations related to the use of dairy terms on products.
