It’s coming up soon – June 1st is World Milk Day, the time the world celebrates the good things happening around the globe because of dairy. Just like last year, the sector needs your help to make this day a success by registering your celebration plans on www.WorldMilkDay.org.

Last year turned out to be the largest coordinated celebration of World Milk Day ever.  Over a 42-hour period, 583 events were held in 77 countries, creating 402 million impressions on social media using #WorldMilkDay.  The hashtag was a catalyst for generating other conversation streams, such as #ReelMilkAffair, which was popular in India and referred to milk use in Bollywood films and #HappyCows in the UK which encouraged sharing photos of farm life.

Last year’s initial effort showed that World Milk Day is a great opportunity for organizations to celebrate dairy products, the joy they bring, and the sector’s commitment to creating a better world.  Building on the success of last year, the campaign will continue with the guiding creative theme of “Raise a Glass.”  Resources and content have been updated for 2018, as has the resource website, which is now at www.WorldMilkDay.org.

In 2001, the FAO declared World Milk Day to take place every June 1st to raise awareness of how much the sector is a part of everyday lives and communities. Nearly one billion people are supported by the year-round work family farmers, small landholders, landless laborers and women do to provide nutrient-rich foods and care responsibly for livestock and the environment.
